AI Boom Tightens Memory Supply Chain: Impact on DRAM, DDR5, and GPU Costs

writer:date:2025-12-01

As global technology continues to shift toward higher AI computing power, many manufacturers are moving production toward AI chips and NVIDIA’s memory-intensive server platforms. This trend is tightening the supply of standard DRAM products, including DDR5 RDIMM.

DRAM prices have already increased by around 50% this year, and industry analysts expect further price hikes through late 2025 and early 2026. Enterprise-grade DDR5 64GB RDIMM modules, for example, may cost twice as much by the end of 2026 compared with prices at the beginning of 2025.

Although Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron are expanding production, the additional capacity is still insufficient to keep up with the explosive AI-driven demand. As a result, memory prices for NVIDIA-based platforms continue to surge, creating new challenges for companies planning their procurement budgets and supply chains.

In this environment, more companies are turning to Chinese suppliers to diversify their sourcing strategies. While prices in China are also rising, the overall increase is much more moderate, and the supply chain remains flexible—providing an effective option for controlling costs and securing stable component availability.
