Amid the Nexperia Crisis, Reliable Supply Matters More Than Ever

writer:date:2025-11-12

Nexperia, formerly the discrete component division of Dutch NXP, was fully acquired by Chinese company Wingtech, becoming a subsidiary. Its headquarters remain in the Netherlands, making Nexperia Wingtech’s overseas holding company, effectively controlled by the Chinese parent.

Nexperia follows a typical global production model: most processes are carried out in the Netherlands, while packaging and final assembly are completed in China before products are sold overseas.

In September this year, the Dutch government temporarily took over Nexperia’s headquarters under the “WBG,” citing governance risks that could affect national security, stripping Wingtech of control. In early October, China’s Ministry of Commerce suspended export permits for related products, restricting Nexperia’s Chinese factories from exporting finished chips overseas.

By mid-October, management disconnects emerged at Nexperia’s Chinese factories. Wingtech announced it was actively communicating with relevant authorities to restore stable operations, but Dutch intervention still prevented normal supply, causing disruptions across the global semiconductor supply chain. On November 6, China’s Ministry of Commerce announced exemptions for exporters, allowing Nexperia’s Chinese factories to resume overseas shipments.

Nexperia is a key supplier of discrete components, power MOSFETs, and logic ICs. Shortages are especially noticeable in automotive electronics and industrial control sectors, affecting companies across Europe, the Americas, and Asia.

While some of Nexperia’s products can be replaced by alternatives from other manufacturers — for example, emerging Chinese semiconductor companies like CJ (Changjing) Technology, which has long supplied automotive clients — validation and certification cycles are lengthy, and switching is not straightforward for many automakers.

Therefore, choosing a distributor that can provide immediate, reliable supply and maintain stable channels remains critical for ensuring uninterrupted production.
